Sorae Pogu Fish Market in Incheon

Sorae Pogu Fish Market in Incheon

Sorae Pogu Market in Incheon is located at Sorae port. The area was originally a small fishing village but it quickly expanded with the development of the nations largest salt field in the 1930’s and the opening of the Incheon – Suwon railroad. The market still has the feel of an old fishing village despite being in the centre of a huge city. Along the port many vendors have set up shop to sell and serve fish with drinks. At night you can find many people having drinks and eating the freshest fish by the river side.

On January the 11th, 2010 a section of the market was burned down in an accidental fire. As the fire was early in the morning no one was injured. The shops have been rebuilt and the market is now as popular as ever.

Once a year in mid- October the Incheon Soraepogu Festival is held. The festival has many events and the roads in the area are closed of to traffic so that a parade can be held. There are a number of activities that both children and adults can enjoy.
