Fire In Sinchon, Seoul.

I was awoken at at 1:40 am today by the sound of many sirens. This is common when living in Sinchon but they were particularly loud today and close. I headed outside to see what was going on and there were many people gathering around. It turns out a fire broke out in one of the buildings. I headed closer through all the fire trucks and people and noticed it was the Occult 2 bar. There was a lot of smoke but I couldn’t see the fire. The fire men were quick to put out the fire and it seems no one was injured.

I wonder what is going to happen to the Occult 2 bar? The fire trucks are still outside as I write this. I will have a look tomorrow and see what damage was done. Hopefully the damage was minor and things can return to normal.

UPDATE: Minor damage. A small fire with a lot of smoke. Occult 2 Bar is open again.

Location of the fire:

Converse Event Sinchon

Converse Promotional Event outside U-Plex Department Store in Sinchon, Seoul.

There seems to be a few of these Converse promotional events around Seoul. Not owning a pair or having any interest in Converse, I have no idea what’s going on. There were a few signs that said Free Print so I’m guessing you can get some designs printed onto your Converse!

There was a big Converse truck at the event that said “Converse Moving Custom Studio”. In here it seems like they are selling Converse shoes and doing the printing. Outside the truck there was a guy with a Converse shoe on his head trying to get the attention of people passing by and 15 girls wearing Converse sneakers and T-shirts. It didn’t take long before a huge crowd gathers, mostly men. If you were wearing Converse shoes you could get your photo taken with the girls and get the “free print”.

If you know what’s going on or where there are more of these events, leave a comment below.

To become more popular they changed their name to Homeplus. Currently Homeplus is one of the top 5 supermarkets in Korea.

A while back I noticed some posters in train stations that showed products from Tesco and looked very similar to the shelves at their supermarkets. I thought it was some sort of cool advertisement but it was more than that. The posters have the same layout and same products as their supermarkets with a QR (Qucik Response) code attached to each product. The idea is that when the busy South Korean people are going home after a long day’s work they can go shopping while waiting for their train. They browse the posters, scan the QR code with their phone, pay online and when they return home the food will be delivered.

This saves a lot of time for the busy South Korean’s as they are known to work the longest hours at work alongside the Japanese.

Check out this cool video I found;
