St. Patrick's Day Festival Seoul Korea 2012

It’s March again in Korea and that means that it’s once again time for the St. Patrick’s Day Festival in Seoul. This years St. Patrick’s Day Festival in Seoul will be held in the D-Cube Plaza (last year’s festival was held in Insadong) which is located beside Sindorim station. Unlike previous years, there will be no parade this year. We are very lucky this year as St. Patrick’s Day Festival falls on a Saturday. There will be plenty of events and activities that will take place at D-Cube Plaza such as Irish, Korean, International music and Irish dancing on stage with samples of Irish food, face painting, balloons and more fun activities off stage. The St. Patrick’s Day Festival in Seoul begins at 12:30 pm and finishes up at around 18:00 pm on Saturday March 17th. After the festival is over everyone will be heading off to Rocky Mountain Tavern in Itaewon to continue on St. Patrick’s Day will plenty of drink until the early hours of the morning.

St. Patrick’s Day Seoul 2012 Time and Date:

The festival will start at 12:30 pm on Saturday March 17th and finish at 18:00 pm. After the festival is over the party continues at Rocky Mountain Tavern in Itaewon with Irish music and plenty of alcohol.

Expo 2012 Yeosu, Korea

The World Expo for 2012 will be held in Yeosu, Korea. Yeosu is a small port city in Jeollanam-do in the south of Korea. The Expo 2012 Yeosu will be held from May 12th to August 12th 2012. South Korea had hoped to have the Expo in Yeosu in 2010 but came in second place after Shanghai. The theme of the Expo 2012 Yeosu is “The Living Ocean and Coast.” Every few years there are world fairs with different themes and countries from around the world that participate. The last fair to be held in Korea was in 1993 in Daejeon. At the Expo 2012 in Yeosu over 100 hundred countries are expected to join in.

With the theme of “The Living Ocean and Coast” you can expect many marina related events and exhibitions. The actual site of the Expo 2012 is the harbour in Yeosu. The whole area has been under construction for the past few years for the Expo 2012. New buildings such as Expo Halls and Theatres have been erected to hold all the different exhibitions with the best facilities available. Walkways for people to enjoy ocean views have been built along with parks, green areas, water fountains and numerous other things. A lot of government funding has been pumped into the whole area in anticipation of the Expo 2012 Yeosu and the Expo Complex looks amazing and futuristic.

Expo Yeosu Korea 2012What exhibitions and pavilions will be at the Expo 2012 Yeosu?

There will be plenty to see and you will never be bored while attending the Expo. The main exhibits, held at different pavilions at the expo are:

The Main Pavilion: This is biggest and main event at the Expo. The theme is “Coexistence of the Ocean and Humanity”. The building is state of the art and built offshore. Inside the pavilion there are numerous smaller themes but the overall exhibition shows us the diversity of life in the ocean, its beauty, its dangers and how we can protect the ocean and its life. All of this information and ideas are presented to us in very unique ways using the latest in technology.

The Korea Pavilion: This exhibition shows Korea’s martime technology and showing where it will all lead to in the future. The main attraction of this exhibition is the 360-degree theatre which shows information about Korea’s martime industry.

International Pavilion: It is here that all of the participating countries at the Expo 2012 Yeosu have there own pavilion space. This building is the largest building at the Expo complex. Each country will share their information based on the theme of “The Living Ocean and Coast” while promoting their own ideas.

Sub Pavilions: There will be a lot more of smaller exhibitions in the area with all different sorts of themes. One that people are looking forward to is the climate experience hall, the multiplex and the exhibition showing how humans over the years sought to explore the ocean and its mysteries.

Ticket prices for the Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea and where to buy them-

Tickets can be bought online at http://ticket.interpark.com/Global/Play/Expo/Expo.asp the official ticket Sellers. You then pick the tickets up when you arrive at the Expo. Tickets start from 33,000 won for a day for adults and 18,000 won for an evening pass for adults. You can also buy multiple day passes. If you buy a ticket before April 30th, 2012 you can get a 5% discount. There are a few days called “peak days” when you need to have a more expensive ticket (40,000 won). The peak days are May 12th -13th, May 28th and August 10th – 12th. You can not use the standard pass on those days.

Expo 2012 Yeosu date and times:

The Expo runs from May 12th to August 12th 2012 (93 days in total).

Location of the Yeosu Expo 2012:

The Expo is held in the city of Yeosu. Yeosu is in Jeollanam-do which is on the southern coast of Korea. It is a port side city with hundreds of small islands located nearby.

Transportation to Yeosu Expo 2012:

The easiest way to get to the Expo in Yeosu is by the KTX (Korea railroad). They have direct routes from different areas in Korea direct to the Expo. The travel time will be 3 hours by KTX. There are also great bus routes from all the major cities in Korea that will take you directly to the Expo. Korea Air fly to Yeosu a few times a day departing from Gimpo Airport and the journey time is only 1 hour.

The official mascots for the Expo 2012 are Yeony (blue) and Suny (red). Yeony and Suny are personifications of a water droplet and plankton. Look out for them at the Expo and don’t forget to take your photo with them.

Seoul Lantern Festival at Cheonggyecheon stream

The Seoul Lantern Festival began in 2009 to kick start the Korean Government’s VISITKOREA 2010 – 2012 plan to attract more visitors to Korea. The Seoul Lantern Festival proved to be very popular and is now held every year in November along the Cheonggyecheon stream. The festival attracts over 2 million people during the 2 weeks that it’s on. Each year there is a different theme which lanterns are created for. In 2011 the theme is ”Stories of Seoul’s Past through Lanterns”. There will be lanterns depicting the history of Seoul. For children there will be lanterns of famous superheroes along with lanterns from around the world. In total there are expected to be over 20,000 lanterns.

Seoul Lantern Festival 2011 Time and Date:

The festival will be held from November 4th to November 20th. The festival lanterns are there all day but really look spectacular when lit up at night. At the weekends there are many things to do with the family.

How to get to the Seoul Lantern Festival 2011:

The festival is held along the Cheonggyecheon stream but the main starting point is Cheonggye Plaza. Cheonggye Plaza is the starting point of the stream and a concert and other events will be held here. To get to Cheonggye Plaza take line 5 to Gwanghwamun station and leave exit 5. It is also within walking distance from City Hall station and other stations in the area. Look at the map below for the nearest station.

Busan International Fireworks Festival

The Busan International Fireworks Festival is held every year in Busan in October along Gwangalli Beach. The fireworks are displayed from boats and the Gwangan Bridge. The event was first held in 2005 to celebrate Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). The fireworks event was very popular and has been held every year since then with the display and events growing in size every year. The Busan Fireworks Festival now attracts over 2 million people from Korea and around the world. There are two firework shows. One is the International Fireworks Festival which showcases fireworks from different countries around the world. In 2011 the countries participating in the International Fireworks display are the USA, Poland, Japan and China. The second fireworks display is an hour long and uses  music and advanced techniques to create a wonderful firework show.

At the 2011 event there will be a whole wide  range of events. There will be musical performances from popular musicians such as Big Bang. Also from October 21st – 29th a whole range of cultural events for foreigners will be held. For more information about the events, visit Busan Events.

Busan International Fireworks Festival 2011 Time and Date:

Cultural Events are from October 21st – 29th. The International Fireworks are held on October 22nd (Saturday) from 20:00 pm to 21:30 pm. The High tech fireworks display is on October 29th (Saturday) from 20:00 pm – 21:00 pm. 2 hours before each firework shows there will be events and performances.

How to get to the Busan International Fireworks Festival:

The main events and main viewing area is at Gwangalli Beach but the fireworks can be seen from all around Busan.
Take Busan line 2 to Geumnyeonsan Station and leave exit 1 or 3 and head toward the beach. Follow the map below.

Korean Grand Prix 2011

The Formula One Grand Prix will be held in Korea on October the 14th – 16th, 2011. The F1 will be held at the Korean International Circuit in Yeongam, Jeollanam-do, South Korea. The Korean International Circuit track was completed in 2010 and designed by renowned German track designer Hermann Tilke. The track at Yeongam is 5.615 km with an amazing 1.2 km straight, the longest straight of any Asian Formula One circuit. There is seating for up to 130,000 spectators at this track and 200,000 people are expected over the 3 day event.

The 2011 Formula One World Championship Race consists of 19 races held in 18 countries around the world. The F1 Korea Grand Prix is the 16th round in the Championship. Unlike most other tracks around the world, the Korean International Circuit is a counter-clockwise track which adds additional  challenges and excitement to the race. The track which was only completed a year ago is a very modern facility.

This years Korean Grand Prix is quite special and well worth the trip for K-Pop fans. There will be a free concert on October 15th featuring Girls’ Generation and Super Junior. The concert begins at 15:30 pm in the parking lot of the Korean International Circuit. On the 16th there will be a small rock festival and air show among other things. All of the programs are free for F1 ticket holders.

Seoul Internationl Fireworks Festival 2011

The Seoul International Fireworks Festival is a yearly event held at Yeouido Park in Seoul, Korea. The festival is sponsored by Hanwha Co. Ltd and other companies. Hanwha are firework manufacturers and are constantly creating new firework display shows that are used around the world. Seoul International Fireworks Festival is another chance for Hanwha to showcase their latest firework displays.

Every year firework display teams from around the world join the festival and showcase their work. This year Japan and Portugal are participating alongside Korea in the festival. All the teams use music in their firework performances.

Seoul International Fireworks Festival 2011 Date and Time:

The firework display will be on from 19:30 pm until 21:00 pm. From 1 pm until 10 pm there are various events and games.

How to get to the Seoul International Fireworks Festival 2011:

The firework festival is held at Hangang Yeuido Park which is in front of the 63 Building beside the Hangang River but the fireworks can be seen from nearly anywhere in Seoul.

Take line 5 to Yeouinaru station (Yeouido Park) and leave exit 2 or 3 and the festival will be located here from 1 pm until 10 pm.

The theatre is circular and each performance can attract crowds of up to 1,300 people with a capacity of 2,500 people. The theatre is located beside Seokchon lake and Seoul Nori Madang

Seoul Nori Madang is a roofed outdoor circled amphitheater where you can see traditional Korean performances such as the farmers dance and mask dance. The theatre is circular and each performance can attract crowds of up to 1,300 people with a capacity of 2,500 people. The theatre is located beside Seokchon lake and Lotte World. The performances are very vivid and include a lot of costumes, colours and music. A visit is definitely recommended as it is free, the performances are excellent and sometimes martial art performances are also held here.

Nori Madang Hours:

Events are held usually every weekend on Saturday and Sunday in the afternoon around 1pm from April to October. The performances can be from 1 to 2.5 hours long.

Take line 2 to Jamsil station and leave exit 3. Head straight and take the first right. Continue walking straight and the theatre is on your left.
